Embarking on an interior renovation is both exciting and daunting. Whether you’re refreshing a single room or overhauling an entire home, the process promises transformation—but it also comes with its fair share of hurdles. Understanding the challenges ahead can help you plan more effectively and reduce stress along the way.
One of the most common issues in interior renovations is scope creep—when the project slowly grows beyond the original plan. Maybe it starts with new kitchen cabinets, but soon you’re eyeing new floors, appliances, and lighting. That’s ok! We cover as much as possible prior to getting started, but plans change.
Once walls and floors come up, surprises can emerge: mold, outdated wiring, cracked joists, or poorly executed past renovations. These hidden problems can quickly derail timelines and budgets.
We recommend leaving a 10–20% buffer for unforeseen expenses.
From cabinetry and tiles to specialty hardware, sourcing materials can be trickier than expected. Delays in delivery or discontinued items can stall the entire renovation.
This is why our Material Selection meeting happens well in advance: We order materials as early as possible and confirm availability before demolition starts. Choose a few backup options for key elements in case your first choices are delayed or unavailable.
If you’re staying in your home during the renovation, expect dust, noise, limited access to key spaces (like kitchens or bathrooms), and general disruption to daily life.
We recommend: Set up a temporary kitchen or bath, and we install dust barriers, and establish clear communication with your about working hours. If possible, consider staying elsewhere during the messiest phases.
Paint colors, tile patterns, faucet finishes, lighting styles—renovations require hundreds of decisions, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or second-guess yourself.
Our design team can help guide you, set deadlines for decisions, and trust your instincts once choices are made.
Interior renovations are rarely smooth from start to finish, but with careful planning, realistic expectations, and our team, they can be incredibly rewarding. Expect some bumps along the way, but keep your eyes on the end goal: a space that reflects your style, meets your needs, and adds value to your home.
